Submission Guidelines
TheDesignWorld is one of the most popular design sites on the internet, and contributing gives you an opportunity to promote your services, show your skills, and add to the TDW community. After a few listings have been approved, you can apply for a
TDW Profile which is a great way to benefit from the exposure your listings will get.
General Guidelines:
To get started, review this document and then head over to the
designer station to start creating.
Members who wish to contribute should review the following information. Each new listing is reviewed by an editor who will mercilessly enforce these guidelines.
No Ripping - Contributions must be your own original work. If your contribution is found to have been written elsewhere, plagiarized, etc.. it will be declined and/or removed.
Give Credits - Wherever appropriate give credit. For example if you are submitting a game render, include a shout out to the game and the source of the original image.
Zero Spam Tolerance - You may add links in your tutorials / article, but if smells the least bit spammy it will probably be declined by the editors.
Unique Premiere - Submissions must be original, and not published previously on an another website. This is both to ensure the uniqueness of the TDW collection and prevent claims of ripping.
Spelling & Grammar - TDW editors may correct minor issues, but to ensure approval please double check spelling and grammar.
Web Template Guidelines:
Web Templates are a very popular download at TDW, and by contributing you can help others, promote yourself, and promote TDW all at the same time.
Coded Vs. Non-Coded templates:
The term "coded" usually applies to a Photoshop PSD template that at the very minimum has been exported to html and is ready to load in to a WYSIWYG editor like Dreamweaver MX. An "uncoded" templates usually consists of just a .PSD file and fonts.
This is all very vauge, but until I can define something better please simply specify whether you template is coded or uncoded, and provide additional information as is necessary. (IMO an uncoded template is simply a layout, unless it is sliced well.)
Slicing:
If your template is in .PSD format, you must specifiy whether or not the template is sliced and ready for export in ImageReady. It is highly recommended that you slice your layout - it may become a requirement for submission in future.
Credit Links:
Each template must have a clearly defined credit link at the bottom of the page. This credit link must include both your link, and a link to TDW. No more, no less. (If you don't have a webpage, you can use a link to your TDW Expanded Profile.)
TDW offers templates to the public on the strict condition that the credit links are unaltered. This is to promote yourself and the TDW community, so make sure that link is in there before submitting.
Terms of Use:
By contributing your template, you are agreeing to donate this web template to the TDW community. People will be able to download your template, modify it, and customize their own sites with it on the condition that they do not remove the credit link.
Photoshop Tutorial Guidelines:
Want to submit a Photoshop tutorial? We've got a pretty decent way for you to easily upload your images and add them to your tutorial text.
Originality Please!
Above all we're looking for original tutorials. Please don't rehash another scanlines tutorial, or rip last week's good-tutorials.com listings.
Image Sizes and Formats:
To allow for some large "beauty" screenshots, the filesize limits are quite generous. However, PLEASE try to compress the tutorial screenshots as much as possible. For example uploading 15 images, each at 200K is not going to make for a good experience for your viewers. Try to save menu screenshots as gif's or png's - that will help keep sizes down.
Article Guidelines:
Now you can submit articles to TDW. Please note that at this time formatting options are quite simple, but we'll be upgrading the article system soon to provide better features.
Suitable Topics:
Suitable topics include design, web design, photoshop, photography, php, css, web marketing, etc.. Even if you submitted a prize winning article on prime number theory (and we found someone to understand it) it would still probably be declined as off-topic. If in doubt please stop by the forums and ask.
Render Guidelines:
Renders are an easy way to start contributing to TDW. Renders are images used by sig designers and designers as components of their work. Abstract and 3D renders are often used a backgrounds, while game and character renders are usually the subject.
These renders are created and shared by the community, and are intended for non-profit and fan based projects like gaming websites, fansites, etc..
Game and Character renders:
If you are submitting game renders, they *must* be cut, and cut well. File formats must be 24 bit .PNG. I know .psd files are popular but 24 bit .png files do the job nicely and transparency is supported by some browsers like FireFox.
Credits:
Again for game renders, you *must* put a shout-out to the game in the credits field. In the future if the game and character render section are popular this is likely to become a requirement.
